First, I want to thank the reviewer who stated that this bell does ring and that it requires a storm, but don't you think that was a bit excessive? After two weeks I'm very pleased with my bell. It gently rings all the time but not as much as my usual wind chime, which I think is excellent. It has a quiet gong sound and is enormous and weighty. To make this bell or other wind chime operate, it must be hung in a windy location. My husband hung this from our front porch and bought a hook that could support up to 100 pounds, which it does not, but it is solid and will last for years. I'm not sorry I bought it, and I've noticed Amazon has reduced the price, so save some money and buy it, you won't be sorry.

But even after delivery, I gave it 5 stars even though it was made in China. Great sound! I bought this and three other Woodstock bells, all different sizes and sounds. The Metalworks bell is bigger than this one I bought. I was impressed with the sound and quality of the instruments until I read the "fine print": produced in China. So future buyers know they are "outsourced" by Woodstock. I think Woodstock should put Americans back to work creating them so they can be labeled PROUDLY MADE IN THE USA!

I listened to this chime on YouTube before buying it. Despite my expectations, I was blown away by the quality of this chime. If you want to hang it outside, you'll need a strong branch. This chime sounds like a buoy marking. This is not your ordinary tinkly wind chime that you hang near a window, this is enormous. I live in Florida and there are plenty of winds, so listening to those tubular style chimes chime all day and night wasn't for me. This is a unique tone with less unpleasant bonging. That's what chimes do, and you're totally correct, my wife made me get it (throwing her under the bus). When I do hear it, it gives this old salt pause for thought. I definitely recommend it, and you should present it to someone you love or despise. lol

This is a great bell if you live somewhere that gets frequent strong winds. After reading similar evaluations, I decided to give it a shot. In Wisconsin, I live near the Fox River and Green Bay. It's often really windy here. After 3 weeks, I've noticed that it requires a breeze of roughly 25 mph to chime. This is a wonderful, low-resonating instrument.
